As you begin planning your dream vacation in Jamaica, you may be tempted to fill your itinerary with beach trips, snorkeling outings, or hikes around the island. Our country is a beautiful one, and you may want to be outside as much as possible. And while this is perfectly understandable, if you spend all your time outside, you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t plan to explore at least a few of our magical indoor attractions in Jamaica as well!
Rose Hall Great House, Rose Hall Road in Montego Bay
Built in 1770, Rose Hall Great House is a lovely example of Jamaican Georgian architecture that was very nearly lost to the ravages of time. Restored to its former glory, its period furnishings, wallpapers, and luxurious chandeliers offer a fascinating contrast to the story it has to tell; the tours offered here tell the story of the slaves’ lives and the infamous white witch of Rose Hall. Offering night tours led by candlelight, the ghost of the white witch is still thought to roam the halls, with many a tourist claiming to have met her. This is one of the best of the indoor attractions in Jamaica!
Bob Marley Museum, 56 Hope Road in Kingston
Located a bit further away from our Jamaica Treasures vacation escapes, a visit to the Bob Marley Museum is definitely worth the time it takes to get there. Once the private residence of the musician, and also home to the Tuff Gong record label specializing in reggae, the brightly colored building is covered in paintings of the former fortune teller doing what he did best: performing. Inside, guests will be intrigued by the artifacts once owned by the singer, a theater capable of seating 80 people, a gallery of pictures, and a store selling trinkets and souvenirs of this remarkable experience.
Greenwood Great House, 435 Belgrade Avenue in Montego Bay
Exploring the great homes that grace the streets of Montego is one of those pleasures you’ll never forget, and the Greenwood Great House is one that will especially stand out in your mind. Offering tours of the impeccably maintained home, the period furnishings and various artifacts scattered throughout the house allow guests to get a clearer idea of what live was like for 18th century occupants, including the world renowned poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Feeling thirsty after your tour? The pub located inside offers a variety of drinks to quench that thirst!
